Anti-oxidants help to maintain healthy tissues and cells inside the eye. Vitamins A, C and E are all fantastic anti-oxidants that are present in fruit and vegetables like oranges, mangoes, peppers and carrots.

Dark vegetables like tomatoes and leafy greens carry lutein and zeaxanthin. These anti-oxidants are called carotenoids and help to lower the risk of age-related macular degeneration. Egg yolks also contain zeaxanthin.

Weekly exercise has a number of benefits for your eyes as well as your heart; it can reduce the risk of ARMD by up to 70%, and regular walks can also help to reduce the risk of ARMD by 30%.

Pressure in the eye decreases with regular exercise and boosts the blood flow to the retina and optic nerve. As well as reducing the risk of ARMD it can work to prevent glaucoma too.
